Captured on video, a man doing a back flip off the Huntington Beach Pier Monday night. A jump that required him to be rescued after.
Just moments before he does his risky jump, you can hear his friends talking about checking off his bucket list.
CBS Los Angeles reports that according to a witness, one of the jumpers friends was holding a remote control for a drone that was being flown above the pier to capture the jump on camera.
He landed in the water hard after his flip, but that’s not what hurt the jumper. It was the big ocean swells and strong currents that nearly did.
It was about a third of a mile from the shore and he couldn’t swim the distance, so he grabbed onto a pier piling and waited to be rescued by a lifeguard.
A lifeguard said, “Apparently he wasn’t a good swimmer.”
According to a witness, friends of the man returned to the pier to record drone footage of the rescue.
This jumper was lucky and walk away with only a few cuts. Lifeguards say it’s a regular thing for them to do rescues near the pier. However, they warn want to be jumpers that it’s not safe. Some people who’ve jumped were either killed or paralyzed.
