Lionel Richie and Dave Grohl are the epitome of #FriendshipGoals, after Richie had 6,000 muffins delivered to the Foo Fighters’ frontman after he broke his leg on-stage at a previous show and had to cancel performing at the Glastonbury Festival in Somerset, England in 2015.
The festival was supposed to be a major milestone for the band, and Grohl was devastated to not be playing it. But a kind gesture from a musical legend helped brighten his spirits.
In an interview with the Guardian, Grohl reveals he was staying at the Grosvenor Hotel in London recovering from his leg surgery when his wife came in and announced, “You got the biggest muffin basket I’ve seen in my entire life!”
“There’s this assortment of muffins two meters high,” Grohl recalled to the Guardian. “There must have been 6,000 ….. muffins. The card said, ‘Sorry to hear about the leg, missing you at Glastonbury, get well soon, PTO.'”
Grohl said he didn’t know who “PTO” was, and wondered if it was a booking agent, until he got a text message an hour later, asking, “Lionel Richie wants to know if you got the muffin basket.”
Richie was playing in the legends slot at Glastonbury that year. “I love Lionel Richie!” Grohl declares.
The Foos will finally get their chance to perform at Glastonbury this weekend. Grohl does not plan on falling off stage again any time soon.
“These days, when I get close to the edge of the stage, I stop.”
