TSA Missed Handgun In Carry-On Bag Of Santa Monica Police Officer

On Thursday, authorities announced that standard security measures weren’t followed when an off-duty police officer from Santa Monica was able to board a flight from Los Angeles International Airport to Taiwan while having a handgun in her carry-on bag.

According to authorities, last week officials from the Santa Monica police department were informed that Officer Noell Grant entered Taiwan on April 13th, with a firearm in her possession and was not allowed to leave the country.

CBS Los Angeles reports that Noell Grant was reportedly on vacation with her family and was detained during a layover to Thailand.

A Transportation Security Administration (TSA) spokesperson told CBSLA: “TSA has determined standard procedures were not followed and a police officer did in fact pass through the checkpoint with a firearm. TSA expects every employee to follow procedures and holds its workforce appropriately accountable.”

Lt. Saul Rodriguez who is a spokesman for the Santa Monica police department told the Daily News the gun was not a service weapon, but a “personal, off-duty” firearm.

As of now, it’s not clear whether Grant has been charged with any crime in Taiwan.
