Name: Anyssia Gibbs
School: Granite Hills
This week’s accomplishment: Gibbs broke the school record for points in a game with 48 against Silverado on Friday. She also put up 18 points, 14 rebounds and seven assists against Barstow on Wednesday.
What do you like most about your sport: I like the fact that in my sport there are always more records to break and accomplishments to meet. There’s never a time where you can say “That’s as far as I can get.” There’s always more.
How long have you been playing your sport and how did you get started: I began playing basketball in elementary school. I’m pretty sure it was second grade. When my dad noticed that I really did like it he began to get involved, teaching me new things and it went up from there.
Pregame ritual: Before the game, I like to go home by myself and get in the zone. No one’s there so I can talk to God out loud with no interruption and get mentally prepared for the game.
Most memorable sports moment: I’ve had many memorable moments but the most memorable is probably in my last game against Silverado. I had 48 points and fouled out with probably four minutes left in the game, and when I got my fifth foul the crowd went wild. You would have thought a celebrity had just walked in.
If you could be someone else for a day, who would it be and why: I wouldn’t want to be anyone but me. No one can be a better me than I can, so I wouldn’t change that.
Something most people don’t know about you: Many people assume that I’m just this arrogant, prideful, selfish person and actually contrary to popular belief I’m really humble. I give all the glory to God regarding everything, and I’m not the egotistical person that I’m made out to be.
How would you spend $1 million: If I got $1 million, I’d probably contribute a portion of it to my church and set some aside for a rainy day. The majority of it would go to my family. I’d make sure they had everything they needed, bills paid and stuff like that.
Where would you go if you could travel anywhere in the world: I’d probably go to Europe. I really like Italian cuisine so maybe there. Or maybe Great Britain.
If you had an extra hour every day, how would you spend it: I’d spend an extra hour a day perfecting my eyebrows.
What superpower do you wish you had: I wish I could read minds. I’d love to see the difference between what people say and what they’re actually thinking.
