Iowa State’s 78-64 loss at Iowa last month was weird. I think even Steve Prohm would acknowledge that. But it was a road game against a rival, and sometimes weird things happen under those circumstances.
They just do.
Beyond that, though, the Cyclones’ season is free of resume-hurting losses. ISU’s 11-4 record features a 73-71 loss to a Gonzaga team ranked fifth in the Top 25 (and one), a 65-63 loss to a Baylor team ranked eighth in the Top 25 (and one), and a 55-54 loss to a Cincinnati team ranked 23rd in the Top 25 (and one). So that’s three losses to ranked teams by a total of five points. And now Iowa State has three wins over top-35 KenPom schools thanks to Wednesday’s 96-86 victory at Oklahoma State.
